Nestlé steps up efforts to increase the number of women in leadership positions by 2022

Today Nestlé outlined an action plan to increase the number of women in senior positions worldwide. This highlights Nestlé's commitment to creating equal opportunities for all in the company.

In recent years, Nestlé has made improvements by increasing the number of women in managerial positions. Currently, 43% of these positions are held by women. With its Gender Balance Improvement Plan, Nestlé will now put the emphasis on increasing the proportion of women in the group's top 200 senior management positions from the current level of about 20% to 30% in 2022. This is another step in Nestlé's path to gender equality.

Mark Schneider, nestlé's chief executive, said: "It's simply the right thing to do. We believe that a more diverse workforce with more women at its leadership will strengthen our inclusive culture and make Nestlé an even better company. We set measurable targets to be responsible for them. We know that improving gender balance leads to better decisions, stronger innovations and higher levels of employee satisfaction."

Nestlé has included gender balance in all staff-related activities. The company was recently listed in the 2019 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index (GEI). Nestlé is now taking advantage of this moment and setting new targets for the future.

The Gender Balance Plan includes the following objectives:

  • Support leaders in promoting an inclusive workplace and make sure they are trained on unconscious bias.
  • Encourage the use of Nestlé's paid parental leave programmes and flexible working time policies in all Nestlé companies.
  • Improve mentoring and sponsorship programs to prepare women with great potential for senior management positions.
  • Recruit and promote more women to senior management positions.
  • Review the results together with senior management to promote gender balance and ensure progress.
  • Continue our fight for equal pay and close the conditions that create pay gaps.
  • To communicate progress in the annual Nestlé report on 'Creating a common value'.

Nestlé's Gender Balance Plan strengthens our existing commitment to improving gender balance in the workforce. We are confident that all men and women will play an important role in promoting gender equality and creating a better workplace," said Béatrice Guillaume-Grabisch,Deputy Executive Director, Group Human Resources and Business Services.

Gender balance is a key component of Nestlé's attitude to diversity and inclusion. It is an integral part of the company's culture and one of the ways in which Nestlé pursues its objectives and values.
