For the first time in Latvia, famous chefs taught children the basics of a healthy diet

On October 20, for the first time in Latvia, international chefs' day activities took place, which this year focused on the theme "Healthy Children - A Healthy Future". Food production company "Nestle" in cooperation with the society "Cooks Club" had prepared a special programme of events in Riga and Jelgava.

As part of International Chefs' Day around the world, in preprimary schools and educational institutions, renowned local chefs presented the process of healthy cooking to children and showed that cooking can be a very exciting activity, but eating fruits and vegetables is not only tasty, but also valuable.

On October 20 at the Restaurant Service School, pastry chefs Jānis and Maija Kairi, as well as the owner of the school – chef Māris Astičs showed, told and prepared healthy meals together with the students of Riga Centre Elementary School of Crafts. Children aged 8-12 had the opportunity to explore the secrets of a healthy diet through games, puzzles and entertainment events in the chefs' master class.

"Thinking about the future of our children is a very noble goal, I am really pleased that we were able to be part of this initiative. I have children in primary school myself, so I know how important it is to accustom them to a healthy diet from childhood, because later it will be much more difficult to change habits. Adults should think about the real things they could change to the healthy side of their child's menu!", says Svetlana Rishkova, Chairman of the Board of the Cooks Club.

During Chefs' Day in Latvia, participants received special colouring recipe books prepared by Nestle, which will allow children to prepare a healthy meal with their parents.

Supporters of the International Chefs' Day event in Latvia were Nestlé Baltics Representation in Latvia, Reaton, Gemoss, Riga Dairy Farmer, Nature Gift, LENNEWARD rabbitry, SIA Fruit Serviss, Live Riga, Jelgava CityCouncil.
